Tsuda, Zoning Administrator SUBJECT: JULY 14,1994 STUDY SESSION-REVIEW OF SITE PLAN FOR SILICON GRAPHICS CAMPUS AND ADJOINING PUBLIC PARK RECOMMEND A nON Review and comment on the conceptual site plan for the Silicon Graphics campus and the adjoining public park. BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS As the City Council is aware, staff and Silicon Graphics are currently negotiating agreements for the development of the Farmer's field site. Concurrently, Silicon Graphics (SGI) and staff are working on designs for the 21.6-acre SGI development and the adjoining 5-acre public park. The purpose of this item is to brief City Council on the development issues and status of the design for the SGI project, and to allow Council an opportunity to provide input at an early stage. At the study session, SGI's design team will present a conceptual site plan for the campus development. The designs are preliminary and continue to be revised and refined. SGI will be presenting site plans; elevations have not been developed at this time. The Site Plan and Architectural Review (SPAR) Committee informally reviewed the project at their meeting of June 30, 1994. The SPAR Committee was supportive of the overall design. Staff and the SPAR Committee have made the following general comments on the design: 1. Improve the entryway treatment to the site. 2. Improve integration between the park and campus along the site's northerly property line. 3. Evaluate alternatives to the location of the cafetorium/ entry building. 4. Evaluate the massing of the northerly building group. 1/14Jq~- 0TAff fef~1AnOf'\ ~ 14l11NULr tlsCMsSrON. ~. t-tl MTJDN City Council July 8, 1994 Page 2 As the Council is aware, the North Bayshore Precise Plan allows a floor area bonus if a number of incentives are met. SGI is preparing to design, construct and pay part of the cost for the adjoining public park as one of the means to qualify for the floor area bonus. SGI's design team will show Council an early concept of the park design. SGI has made significant changes to the park design based on input from staff. Staff believes the concept is now consistent with the Precise Plan and with the recommendations of the North Bayshore Advisory Committee. The design is still preliminary. The intent is to illustrate how the campus development and park will interrelate. The Parks and Recreation Commission will be requested to review the park design in detail and provide their comments as the proposal is refined. Staff and SGI will provide additional details on these comments and the project as a whole at the meeting. Prepared by: If) 1 -- v~Y'-c~{J /X(4 C-z---- Randal R.
