Dear City Council,
Regarding agenda item 4.5: Miramonte Avenue Improvements, please approve this. I, like
many parents of students at Graham middle school, feel that we desperately need the proposed
two-way class IV bikeway in order to keep kids safe as they return home from school at
Graham.
Sincerely,
Dwight Rodgers

Mayor Lucas and members of the City Council
I am writing to applaud staff for being proactive in revising the Professional Services Agreement to improve bicycle
safety especially Graham Middle School student commutes. The proposed Class IV two-way protected bikeway on
the east side of Miramonte is a far superior option to the originally proposed bike lanes on both sides of the street
that would require students to cross Miramonte twice or ride on the sidewalk. The bulbouts and LED -enhanced
sidewalk crossing will also add to the safety improvements along this corridor.
I am very thankful for this forward thinking proactive active transportation planning in our City and urge your
approval of this consent calendar item.
Sincerely,
Cliff Chambers

Dear Council,
You don't need me to tell you how awesome bikes are. They're cleaner, safer, cheaper,
quieter, and take up less space than cars. They make people healthy and happy and allow us to
enjoy our beautiful neighborhoods and weather.
My son is almost four years old, and he loves biking. It makes me so proud... and so terrified. I
wish I lived somewhere that made it safe for us to bike. Every day when I bike him to school
along Rengstorff, I feel like I'm taking our lives in our hands, especially at the narrow Central
Expressway intersection. (Hopefully the underpass under the train will eventually make that
crossing safer.)
So I'm excited to hear that staff recommends upgrading the bike lane on Miramonte to be
separated, rather than just some paint on the shoulder.
Last year I biked weekly from Rengstorff Park to the hospital area. I would have made good
use of a fully safe bikeway on Miramonte.
I hope this is just the beginning for bikeways in Mountain View. YouTube channels like Not
Just Bikes have opened my eyes to how a city can transform itself to be so lovely and inviting,
if we just make a few changes to put bikes on even footing with cars.
Thanks and keep up the good work,
Jeremy Hoffman, now father of two little Mountain View residents
PS: it only just occurred to me that "miramonte" is Spanish for "mountain view"!
