Dear Mayor Ramirez and Councilmembers,
Item 4.8 on tonight's Consent Calendar pertains to the repair and retrofit of the city -owned
Recology building on Terra Bella Ave. I have no objection to this project IF the building is
expected to be used for many more years, but if there's any chance that the site could be used
for a city park, shouldn't the study on park feasibility be done before repairs are done? This
would eliminate the risk that the newly repaired building would be torn down a few years
later.
There should be no doubt in your minds that the Stierlin Plan Area is in dire need of additional
city parks. At less than half an acre per 1000 residents, it has one of the lowest city -owned
park -land-to-resident ratios in the city, and the nearby projects under construction at Shoreline
Gateway, Hiro Apartments, and 777 West Middlefield will soon bring in an additional 2000
residents into the area. Even if the site is not used as a park due to its location, perhaps it could
be traded for a better situated lot. The park study could look into this as well. Please consider
delaying the retrofit project and moving up the park feasibility study instead.
Thank you for listening,
Albert Jeans
